Preserving Indian family stories, one question at a time.
Privacy & Rights
Effective Date: March 2026 | Version 1.0
Your family's stories are sacred. This document explains exactly how Smriti handles your personal information, what rights you have, and how we use AI — in plain language.
1. Who We Are
Smriti is a personal biography service that helps families preserve the life stories of their loved ones. We gather memories through guided questions — by voice or text, in your language — and use AI to compile them into a beautifully written personal biography.
Smriti is operated by Ravikumar Munukutla. For any questions about this policy, please contact us at smriti.agent@gmail.com.
2. Information We Collect
From Biography Subjects
Your name, preferred language, and contact details (provided by the Project Owner)
Your responses to questions — written text and/or voice recordings
Metadata: timestamps, question IDs, language used, response modality
From Friends & Family Contributors
Your name, email address or WhatsApp number (provided by the Project Owner)
Your written responses to the story prompts we send you
Your preference for how you are attributed in the biography (full name, first name, anonymous, or relationship only)
From Project Owners / Gift-Givers
Your name and contact information
Names and contact details of the subject and contributors you add to the project
Standard web access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and system health monitoring
We do not currently collect payment information. When paid plans are introduced in the future, payment data will be collected and processed securely through a trusted payment provider. We will update this policy before that feature is launched. We do not collect government ID numbers or other sensitive financial data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information primarily to create the biography you have consented to be part of:
To send questions and collect responses from the biography subject
To invite and receive contributions from friends and family
To transcribe voice responses into text (via Sarvam AI)
To synthesise responses into a coherent biography narrative (via Claude API)
To generate and deliver the final PDF biography to the Project Owner and Subject
To communicate about project status and timelines
Marketing Communications
We may also use your contact information (name, email address, phone number) to let you know about new Smriti features, offers, or services that may be of interest to you — for example, if you gifted a biography, we may reach out about future occasions where you might want to do the same.
This applies to contact and account data only. Your biographical content — life stories, voice responses, and anything shared as part of a biography project — will never be used for marketing purposes. That content exists solely to create your biography.
You can opt out of marketing communications at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email we send, replying “UNSUBSCRIBE” to any WhatsApp message, or emailing smriti.agent@gmail.com. Opting out of marketing will not affect your biography project or service-related communications.
4. How AI Works in Smriti
Smriti uses AI in three ways. We believe you have the right to understand exactly what that means for your stories.
Voice Transcription — Sarvam AI
When you respond by voice, your audio is sent to Sarvam AI — an AI service built specifically for Indian languages and accents. Sarvam converts your spoken words into text. We use Sarvam because it handles Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and English with accuracy built for the way Indian families actually speak.
Adaptive Questions — Claude API
As you answer questions, Claude (by Anthropic) reads your previous responses and suggests the next most relevant follow-up question — personalised to your specific story, not a generic template.
Biography Synthesis — Claude API
Once enough responses are collected, Claude synthesises everything into a readable biography narrative. It corrects grammar and organises the content — but it works only from what you and your contributors have shared. It does not add, invent, or embellish.
AI Does
AI Does Not
✓ Suggest personalised follow-up questions
✗ Decide what stories are included in your biography
✓ Transcribe voice responses accurately
✗ Fabricate or infer facts not in your responses
✓ Synthesise responses into a readable draft
✗ Override your editorial rights
✓ Correct grammar and improve readability
✗ Use your personal stories to train Smriti's systems
✓ Flag potentially sensitive content for human review
✗ Share your data with third parties for their own purposes
Important note on third-party AI providers: Smriti's own systems will never use your personal stories to train AI models. However, Smriti uses Sarvam AI and Anthropic's Claude API to process your content. These providers operate under their own data and privacy policies. We encourage you to review Sarvam AI's Privacy Policy and Anthropic's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle API-submitted data.
A Human Always Reviews Before You Do
No AI-generated biography content reaches the subject without passing through the Project Owner's review first. And the subject has complete editorial control over the final version — they can modify, remove, or reject any section before the biography is finalised.
Available in your language: All disclosures about AI use, consent language, and participant rights are available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and English. If you need this information in your preferred language, please contact us.
5. Your Rights
Every person who participates in a Smriti project has rights. These are not buried in fine print — they are core to how we operate.

6. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share your data only as follows:
Within the project: The Project Owner sees all responses. The Subject sees the synthesised biography draft. Contributors do not see each other's responses.
Sarvam AI: Voice recordings are sent to Sarvam AI for transcription. Only audio submitted during your session is shared; it is used solely to return a text transcript.
Anthropic (Claude API): Text responses are sent to Claude to generate adaptive questions and biography drafts. Content is used solely to process your request.
No other third parties. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other party.
Smriti will never sell your data. Ever.
7. Data Retention
Active project data: Retained while the project is active, plus 30 days after the final biography is delivered.
Final biography: Stored indefinitely and accessible to the Subject and Project Owner unless deletion is requested.
Voice recordings: Retained for the duration of the project. Deleted within 30 days of project completion unless the Subject requests their audio files as an archive.
On deletion request: All personal data removed from active systems within 7 days and from backups within 30 days.
8. Security
Each biography project is stored in complete isolation — no cross-project data access is technically possible
All system credentials and API keys are stored securely and never exposed in code
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS)
Access to project data is restricted to the Project Owner and platform administrator
Daily automated backups ensure no data is permanently lost due to system failure
If you believe your data has been compromised, please contact us immediately at smriti.agent@gmail.com.
9. Children
Smriti is designed for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18 without explicit parental or guardian consent. If a Project Owner wishes to include a minor as a contributor, written guardian consent must be obtained and documented before participation.
10. Questions or Concerns?
We are a small, family-focused service and we take every question seriously.
